Market Potential: I think that there is market potential for a book on consumer wisdom, but it all depends on how you frame it. Self help books and memoirs are really popular, so I think that it could be a good idea to frame is as series of stories about wise consumerism instead of an academic journal. I also think that the writing should be more of a novel style of writing instead of academic. Readability is really important, and I think that it will help it sell more. Personally, I would not want to read an academically written book in my free time.
Book Attributes: As I mentioned above, I think that a book with personal stories would be good! I am most compelled by the personal experiences of others, and so I would personally rather read a book with “testimonials” about wise consumerism and its impact on people’s lives than a book primarily focused on explaining research. Unsurprisingly, my favorite part of the article was the transcripts from the interviews.
Name: I think that the book should have a catchy title – something that is going to peak interest and draw readers in. Maybe something along the lines of “Make Your Money Last” or maybe “Wise Choices Save Money”, which could emphasize how wise consumption (buying quality products) can save money over time. I think that a title like Consumer Wisdom may not be as engaging.
